Increasing development to the east of downtown Bentonville needed a solution to replace an inefficient 4-way stop at the busy NE J Street/John Deshields Boulevard/Museum Way intersection. The available area for the roundabout project was limited by Orchards Park on the southeast corner, Legacy Village neighborhood at the northeast corner, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art on the west side. The park, museum, and nearby schools all dictated that safe routes for high volumes of pedestrian traffic was also critical. CEI collaborated with the contractor to provide construction phasing that would maintain daily traffic throughout construction with further overall constraints on the construction schedule due to upcoming events. Although not a major truck route, it was essential that large tractor-trailer rigs must be able to easily navigate the roundabout to assure deliveries to the museum would not be disrupted. CEI provided survey, design and permitting, and construction administration for the successful execution of this project.
