Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

PHASE II:  The project included surveying, modeling, and design support for new buildings and enclosed spaces connected to the museum’s existing permanent pool and surrounding water features.

Located adjacent to the Town Branch Creek corridor, the expansion required careful consideration of environmental and floodplain impacts. CEI performed detailed boundary and topographic surveys and provided FEMA floodplain modeling, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and coordination with local floodplain administrators to evaluate potential impacts to base flood elevations and ensure regulatory compliance.

CEI’s engineering scope also included schematic design support, grading and erosion control planning, stormwater management integration, utility coordination, and permitting assistance. The team coordinated anticipated wetland-related review requirements with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as needed to support development within this environmentally sensitive setting.

Additional services included preparation of large-scale development drawings and construction documentation to support implementation within a highly visible recreational and cultural destination. Through proactive coordination and technical expertise, CEI helped advance infrastructure improvements while preserving the integrity of the site’s natural water features and surrounding environment.
