Sam’s Club

Project Location: Locations throughout the United States

Project Focus:  4749 Conway, AR

CEI has been the CEC for many Sam’s Club new store projects, our most recent project being the new Club and fueling station located at the SE corner of the I-40 and Dave Ward Drive (Hwy 286) interchange.  This was a joint development project, where CEI had to work with a developer in North Carolina and their civil engineer/surveyor located in Oklahoma.  This project was particularly challenging in that the site was extremely flat and had a high water table, as well as USACE regulated wetlands.  Regarding the wetland impacts, CEI was able to obtain a USACE Individual Permit in less than 8 months of filing the application.  CEI also had to work with Conway Corporation to relocate existing 8-inch & 18-inch gravity sanitary sewer lines and a force main, all which ran through the middle of the proposed Sam’s Club building.  While this project was being designed and constructed, the City of Conway was making significant improvements to both Dave Ward Drive and S Amity Road, including the installation of three traffic circles/roundabouts, which required CEI to coordinate with the developer and City to avoid negative impacts to the Sam’s Club grand opening.

This Sam’s Club was one of the first in the nation to include Club Pickup facilities, which is similar to the Walmart Online Grocery Pickup service.   The fueling station is located on the north side of the Sam’s Club parking lot along S Amity Road and includes six fuel pumps.  CEI provided due diligence investigation, entitlement, civil engineering and landscape design, permitting, and construction services for this project.
